Powerman Luxembourg results Posted on: Sunday 3rd May 2009 Bookmark This | Print This Page | Send To A Friend Joerie Vansteelant (Belgium) won the seventh Le Foyer Powerman in Bastendorf. On the first run, Vansteelant and Jason Spong (South Africa) went hard to get a small gap before they attacked the bike course. On the bike, Joeri Vansteelant pushed hard to take the advantage of his strong bike leg and finally finished the 60 km extremely hilly course five minutes before Jason Spong. The Belgian manages to control his advance during the last 10 km run. "I clearly made the difference on the bike. I pushed hard during the first climb to get an advance. During the last run, my stomach hurt, but I was fine again during the last lap", said Vansteelant. Spong finished second: "I followed Joerie on the first run, but he was too strong on the bike, so I focused on my own race. I hoped to close the gap on the second run, but it was too big." Luxembourgish Marc Urwald got the third place and won the national long distance championships. He raced like an old fox. Stayed during the whole race in a third wave of six behind the first two leader Vansteelant and Spong. In the last lap of the second run (10km) the Dutch Wim Nieuwkerk attacked and seemed to go for the third place but Marc Urwald could close the gap just before the finish. The women's race was won by Mariska Kramer from the Netherlands. From the beginning, she lead the race and finished with an advance of over two minutes to Sylvie Quittot (France). Maud Goldsteyn (NED) finished third, while Sandra Huberty won the national championships. Nicole Klinger(LIE) was in second place for much of the race, but had to slow down. "During the second bike lap my right arm caused me too much problems because of an accident two weeks ago. But I desperately wanted to finish anyway."
