![]() Follow in Pendleton’s Footsteps and Pedal it Pink Posted on: Thursday 23rd July 2009 Bookmark This | Print This Page | Send To A Friend The Pedal it Pink women only cycle ride, launched in Liverpool this April by Olympic cycling champion Victoria Pendleton, was such a success with the ladies that the second one has just been announced in Nottingham. The next Pedal it Pink event has been set for Sunday 25th October, which marks the calendar end of the British summer. So make sure you squeeze the last of the sunshine out of 2009 and take part in this super event! Taking place in Nottingham’s National Watersports Centre at Holme Pierrpont, Pedal it Pink once again has a variety of cycle routes to choose from. Cyclists can choose between a full marathon (26.2miles) and a half marathon (13.1 miles) and children and partners can take part in the 5k Family Lap. All routes are completely enclosed in the park, so it’s safe, traffic-free and suitable for existing and aspiring cyclists. If you are not from the East Midlands, why not make a girly weekend of it? Nottingham boasts some of the country’s best shopping so why not treat yourself after all that exercise! Entry to the full marathon is £15, half marathon £10, and the family 5k lap just £5. In April, Pedal it Pink amabassador, Victoria Pendleton took part in the first ever event with her mum. She said: “I really enjoyed the event, it was refreshing not to ride on a road for a change. It was quite challenging in some parts, with changing surfaces, but me and my mum had lots of fun and so did the rest of the women out on the course.” Comparing the park to her usual cycling habitat on the race track, she added: “I still had to keep my wits about me but there was more time to react today than in the velodrome! It was so good to see so many women out there supporting such a great cause and everyone was really supportive of one another, clapping and cheering each other on. What a great way to spend a sunny Sunday afternoon!” Entries are now live on the website www.breastcancercampaign.org - from 1st July. Samantha Gold, Senior Events Manager at Breast Cancer Campaign said, “We are delighted to announce the date and venue for the next Pedal it Pink. The first event, was such a huge success; with over 750 ladies pedalling round Sefton Park in the glorious sunshine. A great time was had by all and we havd raised more than £38,000 with money still coming in.” “We hope to recreate this in Nottingham this October and would like to encourage you to join us on this very exciting day and help us to raise vital funds for breast cancer research. Not only is it a great way to stay fit but the cycling challenge is sure to be a fun day out for friends and family with all proceeds going to a very worthwhile cause.” To join the pink revolution, visit www.breastcancercampaign.org, email pedalitpink@breastcancercampaign.org or call 020 7749 3700. Come on girls! Let’s get together and put the brakes on breast cancer! ![]() |
