Matt on track at Duathlon Posted on: Wednesday 7th October 2009 Bookmark This | Print This Page | Send To A Friend Matt Moorhouse of Athlete Matters/Hewitt Cycles won the Xtra Mile Events “Oulton Park Autumn Duathlon” by one minute from second placed Ian Cardy. Third placed Darren Treadaway was nearly two minutes behind the overall winner. Moorhouse is a former Duathlete National Champion (2006), World Runner-up (2007), and World Elite GB Long Distance (2007) squad member. A field of over 200 competitors lined up on the starting grid of the Oulton Park International Motor Racing Circuit. The first leg of the duathlon was a two lap run (8.6km). The first athlete back into Transition was Phillip Holland closely followed by Ian Habgood and Ian Cardy. Moorhouse started the 36.8km cycle leg two minutes down, but a blistering cycle saw him return into Transition with a 30 second lead over Cardy. Moorhouse was able to extend his lead to 30 seconds after the final run leg (another lap of the 4.3km circuit) finishing in an impressive time of 1:43:15; and setting the course record! The women's race was won by Danielle Stewart of Coventry Cycle Centre. Stewart was an impressive eight minutes ahead of second placed Samantha Briggs. The Oulton Park Circuit was a great venue for the final leg of the British Triathlon Federation Mazda National Ranking Series, and with its undulating features and the autumn shower that fell on the athletes in the middle of the cycle leg, it provided a challenging course for the day's competitors. All competitors received a goody bag, and winners received various prizes from sponsors including Edinburgh Bicycle Co-operative, Nokia, Zoot, Zoggs, TriCentral, Sweatshop, and Jointace. Marshals at the event were from Northwich ATC. Full results and further details can be seen at www.XtraMileEvents.com ![]()
