Experience certainly counted at Leicester Triathlon Club's Flashman Triathlon & Duathlon as veteran athletes dominated the races held at Lutterworth Grammar School. The return of the popular event after a year's absence due to road adaptations saw the largest ever field with the Triathlon heavily oversubscribed. In ideal racing conditions veterans Mick Stevens (48:33) and Lynn Green (56:12) won the duathlon with Les Hewitson (49:00) and Jane Wyncoll (66:54) taking the runner up spots. In his second race Callum Render found the course more to his liking than in his debut at Swindon and won the junior's race (59:31). A leak at the swimming pool in the week before the race and temporary traffic lights on the course had organisers sweating but everything came together for the triathlon, which featured a new cycle course. A faster swim and cycle enabled veteran Leyshon Williams (52:33) to hold off a strong running Stuart Power (53:17) with Matt Thompson recovering from a slower swim to take third place (54:40). Wesley Bond was first male junior building on a strong swim (60:48). In the female race Rosalind Rae (63:25) stopped the veterans from having a clean sweep. Despite a faster cycle second placed Sally Wagstaff (64:19) could not make up the deficit from the swim. Louise Oliver (67:15) showed consistency in all three disciplines to take the veteran's prize with local athlete Grace Watson winning the junior race (70:59).
