At the first edition of Powerman Italy in Malgrate/Lecco a top international field took to the roads for the last Powerman Duathlon event of the European season 2010.
From the start Joerie Vansteelant (BEL) set the pace and only Anthony Le Duey (FRA) was able to follow. After some 31 minutes back in the transition area, Vansteelant made a gap with a very fast change to bike and was from then an unchallanged leader. Current Powerman World Champion Andy Sutz (SUI) left transition one minute adrift and headed out for the demanding bike course over 80 km. After 35 km along Lake Como on a flat course heading to Bellagio, a 13 km long climbing was the challenge of the day. Sutz tried everything but with two falls on the wet and very slippery roads he lost more and more time. Back to Malgrate, Vansteelant's lead was impressive and he could cruise the second run, without any need to push to the limits. Sutz arrived with Soren Bystrup (DEN) minutes behind whilst the unlucky Frenchman Le Duey missed an intersection and had to give up in promising position. Eight minutes behind Vansteelant, Bystrup ran down Sutz on the last meters of the second run, consisting of another 10 km. Vansteelant said: “This was the perfect finale of this season. After a break, I will start my preparation for Powerman Zofingen 2011.”
In the women's race Ulrike Schwalbe (GER) won in 4:01:33 her second Powerman race in 2010 after Powerman Germany in May. Second was the Dane Susan Svendsen before the Swiss 2010 Powerman Vice-World Champion Jacqueline Uebelhart.
Powerman International President John Raadschelders and Powerman Zofingen World Championships President Stefan Ruf expressed there hope, that Powerman Malgrate/Lecco will become one of the Powerman top events in the near future. The lineup of international athletes was impressive and event organizer Renzo Straniero and his team Spartakus was the expected reliable partner.

Powerman Zofingen: Sutz and Csomor

http://www.duathlon247.com/article_5751.html

The winners of the 22nd Powerman Zofingen are the same as two years ago: Andy Sutz from Schaffhausen, Switzerland and Erika Csomor from Hungary, who won for the seventh consecutive time. The pair become World Champion on the Duathlon Long Distance of the I.P.A (International Powerman Association). Great results for the local athletes too: Jacqueline Uebelhart, born in Welschenrohr and living in Aarwangen finished second, Lukas Baumann from Zofingen seventh. In front of the eyes of Councillor Ueli Maurer, almost 1300 athletes competed over the weekend.
The 22nd Powerman Duathlon World Championships Zofingen were a success in all regards. Sunny weather, huge numbers of spectators and as many participants as Zofingen had in the year 2000. This was possible despite the fact that the event in Zofingen and the Short Distance World Championships of the ITU (International Triathlon Union) took place on the same day. Joerie Vansteelant who last year has won the I.P.A. Word Championships Long Distance raced this weekend in Edinburgh and not in Zofingen. The Belgian has set a new course record last year (6 hours 11 minutes 35 seconds), and was 16 minutes ahead of the Swiss athlete Andy Sutz. On the 4th September 2011 will be the next showdown of this two top athletes, as Vansteelant has promised the organisers of Powerman Zofingen that he will race in Zofingen for the next five years.
Sutz wins again
Andy Sutz is looking forward to that battle with Joerie in 2011. The man from Schaffhausen has won in Zofingen for the second time this year, having previously won in 2008. "This perspective is a big motivation for me." Sutz did not speak of a easy victory: "the victory two years ago was wonderful because it was the first one. Today's victory makes me happy, because I put myself under pressure willing to win." Sutz didn't start very fast. Like a rocket, the French athlete Thibaut Humbert took off from the gun. After 17.5 kilometers of the last 30 running kilometers Sutz took over the lead and finished just 54 seconds ahead of Humbert. Another Frenchman, Anthony Le Duey, finished third as he had in 2009. Lukas Baumann was very very happy with his seventh place: "that's world class and it is my best result ever so far."
Csomor Rules
Overall winner was Andy Sutz who in the end was nine minutes ahead of Erika Csomor at the finishing line. Sutz started with a handicap of 53 minutes. The man from Schaffhausen could take back home besides his victory award of 9,000 US-dollars, an additional amount of 2,000 US-dollars as first athlete across the line. The total amount of prize money in Zofingen is 50,000 USD.
That she didn't win the overall title did not much bother Erika Csomor who won in Zofingen for the seventh time in a row."The last three victories where the best for me." At the beginning it didn't look like an other success for the Hungarian was on the cards. Martina Krähenbühl from Münsingen/SUI was leading. The winner of the Swiss Duathlon Cup races in Marbach and in Spiez fell down after five kilometers of running and went on with a bleeding knee. With more than 25 kilometers more to run ahead, she then has given up the race at the Heitere. Erika Csomor: "I expected that she couldn't go on racing with the same speed till the end." Jacqueline Uebelhart had the same thoughts and had the race of her life. "12 minutes after Csomor becoming second is a great result, the best I've ever had so far in my career." Third place went to Camilla Lindholm from Sweden, finishing a further four minutes back.

Powerman Duathlon Austria is ready for take-off. 600 staff members are mobilised and waiting for the excellent field of athletes. Weyer and its surrounding communities are well prepared for a star-studded event, where the male challengers first are: national favourite Karl Prungraber (AUT), Andy Sutz (SUI) and Anthony LeDuey (FRA). Organisers are geared up for them as well as for all other pros, age groupers and all other athletes. Eagerly awaited is also the attractive women's field: Erika Csomor (HUN) contests with Michelle Parsons (GBR) and Victoria Beck (NZL) for the title on the long distance. Furthermore, a very interesting athlete decorates the women’s field: Elina Ussher, native-born Finn, was a cross-country skier once. She lives in New Zealand at the moment and is looking forward
to the challenge which is waiting for her in Upper Austria.
Austrian top favourite Karl Prungraber was asked five questions with regard to the upcoming race:
Powerman: Weyer is almost a home race for you as you are living in Linz. What are you most of all looking forward at?
Prungraber: To the great atmosphere here! A lot of people know me here, they are cheering me and giving me strength!
Powerman: How are you preparing for the race?
Prungraber: I did the course several times in the run-up to the race to get sure that I know every stone and every unevenness. I prepared especially for the hilly parts, the difficult bike course.

Powerman: How do you estimate your chances at the Powerman Austria Duathlon?
Prungraber: My goal is to get top three. Then I would really be satisfied. I do not speculate with winning, there are other candidates.
Powerman: Who would be…
Prungraber: My favourite is Andy Sutz from Switzerland. He has been on the podium already often in Weyer. He is ripe for winning.
Powerman: You are doing duathon besides your profession as a chemical worker. Also, you are having a family who wants to spend time with you. How do you unite those different interests?
Prungraber: It's not easy, time is lean. But I have an exactly calculated training schedule. And I try to utilize good the time that remains. Let’s see. I really would love to come on the podium next weekend. And the next goal would be a top-result at the Ironman Kärnten next year. Then I would have reached my most important goals…

Powerman Belgium report

http://www.duathlon247.com/article_5745.html

Never was a Powerman race so unpredictable till the end as this years Powerman Belgium in Geel.
Mens race
Many of the top Powerman World Ranking athletes lined up at the start at 15:00 hours.
After the first lap of 2.5km of the 10km first run, Anthony Le Duey (FRA) and Joerie Vansteenlant (BEL) lead the field. But after the second a leading pack of around eight men had formed.
Heading into the final lap, after 7.5 km, there were two groups of four within only six seconds.
Both groups came together in transition: leading Anthony Le Duey (FRA); Joerie Vansteelant(BEL) and closely followed by Armand van der Smissen (NED); Julien Brazy and Jérémy Bologne (FRA); Jochem Neyrinck (BEL); Soren Bystrup (DEN) and Matt Moorehouse (GBR).
For Jérémy Bologne(FRA) and Julien Brazy(BEL) it was proving tough. Several times Anthony Le Duey (FRA) and Joerie Vansteelant (BEL) tried to make a gap, but never with success. The remaining top six athletes stayed close to each other and kept the minimum 10 meters non- drafting distance, closely watch by the referees. The Belgian head referees were very positive about this after the race!
The final 10 km Run.
After km the young Belgium Athlete Jochem Neyrinck accelerated and one-by-one the rest had to let him go. A big surprise for all was that Anthony Le Duey (FRA) and Joerie Vansteelant (BEL) were the first to struggle and that only Soren Bystrup(DEN) and master (!) Armand van der Smissen (NED) were able to follow and possibly close the gap. However, on the final lap Jochen Neyrinck (BEL) was even able to increase his lead to gain his first big international Powerman victory. Soren Bystrup (Den) came 16 seconds later to finish second with Armand van der Smissen taking third

Ladies Race
From the start it would be a race between Jacqueline Uebelhart (SUI), Susanne Svendson (DEN) and Ulrike Schwalbe (GER). All three had showed good form this year.
Suzanne Svendsen (DEN) proved this by recording the fastest run splits over both 10km runs.

Ulrike Schwalbe (GER) lost only four seconds in the first run, and showed on the bike to be the best today, holding a two minute lead at transition two. Jacqueline Uebelhart (SUI) finished third and felt she had a good race in line with her plans for World Championship Powerman in Zofingen on September 5th

If you wanted to participate in a challenging race this weekend, you had to be at the 2010 Powerman Germany in Falkenstein Germany. A difficult run route with steep rolling hills, combined with a difficult climb immediately after transition, rain, strong cold wind and in between some sunshine, good organisation and positive, enthusiastic sporty spectators would have been your world this weekend.
Female:
Susanne Svendsen (DEN) showed in the first run that she had very good legs today. She and local world class duathlete Ulrike Schwalbe (GER) took the lead in the female race after the first run. Susanne Svendson did a fast transition and started the bike leg 20 seconds before Ulrike Schwalbe and over 3 min ahead of Jacqueline Uebelhart (SUI). Today Jacqueline Uebelhart was the fastest on the bike. It took her 2:11:05 for the 64 km hilly bike course. She was able to overtake Susanne Svendsen(GER) and closing the gap between her and Ulrike Schwalbe (GER). Despite gear shift problems Ulrike Schwalbe took the lead in the race on the bike and brought the 2010 Powerman Germany and 2010 National Duathlon Champion victory home.
Male:
A very strong male field lined up at the 2010 Powerman Germany start line. Anyway everybody knew that the Swiss Andy Sutz and the British Matt Moorhouse were the men to beat today. The top German athletes were also at the start for their 2010 National Duathlon Championship. Several of them wanted to show today that it was their race and that the Germans were the men to beat in Falkenstein.
Daniel Rockoff (GER) came first in transition after a heavy and rainy 16km in 52min. 34sec. with Andy Sutz (SUI) and Matt Moorhouse (GBR) within 10 sec. Soon after them came a long line of duathletes from all over Europe such as David Vaughan (IRL), Boris Stein (GER), Karl Prungraber (AUT), Philippe Linder (SUI) and Esben Kaczmann (DEN).
Matt Moorhouse (GBR) had the fastest bike time of 1:49:52 and came in transition first, closely followed by Andy Sutz (SUI). The German surprise of the day was Boris Stein with a very strong bike ride (2nd fastest) and second run to finish 3rd in Powerman Germany and to become the 2010 German Long Distance Duathlon Champion.

Wim Nieuwkerk and Maud Goldsteyn take Dutch National Championship titles.
 Men’s Competition
In an oppressively hot Horst aan de Maas, the Frenchman Le Duey become European Powerman Duathlon Champion. When race favorite Joerie Vansteelant (BEL). suffered a puncture during the second lap of the cycle, he cleared the way for the second victory of Anthony Le Duey at a Powerman event. Previously he had beaten Vansteelant, current Powerman World Champion and overwhelming favourite, in a duel in 2009 Geel.
Aksel Nielsen (DEN) produced a superb second run to a second place. British athlete Matt Moorhouse was a surprising bronze medal winner. The hard running Moorhouse walked pulled away from his closest competitor for third place at the European Championships, his best result to date.

 Ladies Competition
In the women's race, Camilla Lindholm (SWE) secured a dominant win. Lindholm, second in the event in 2009 finished almost five minutes clear of Ulrike Schwalbe (GER), who also improved her position, having finished third last year.
Until the 12km point of the first run, Lindholm had both Schwalbe and Maud Golsteyn (NED) for company. She then managed to pull away and secure a small gap on exiting T1, which she them went on the expand throughout the remainder of the race. On the final run Lindholm to enjoy her victory in Horst aan de Maas. Surprise performance of the day was Dutch athlete Maud Goldsteyn. While Lindholm was away and clear, Golsteyn had a very close battle throughout with Schwalbe, and it was only during the final 2.5km lap of the second run that the experienced former World Champion got the better of the brave Dutch athlete.

Joerie Vansteelant (BEL) and Marisa Asplund (USA) took the overall race wins, ain an event that also hosted the USAT Elite Duathlon National Championships. Here is the full report from the event.

The one uncontrollable factor in a race? The weather. The weather at Powerman Alabama has been called epic on more than one occasion and not in a good way. Racers and spectators were delighted when this year’s event was highlighted by beautiful sunny 70 degree weather for Saturday’s races; even the predicted rain storms held out for most of Sunday. However one Powerman Alabama tradition held true. The challenging course.
The Powerman Alabama Multisport Weekend events were held March 27 and 28 at Oak Mountain State Park in Pelham, AL. The weekend included kids duathlons, an off-road duathlon and road race, and three amateur road duathlons. The highlight of the weekend was the stand-alone Elite Duathlon National Championship which started with a dynamic field of twenty-five professional athletes.
Professional Men
The front runner for the men’s race was the number one ranked duathlete in the world, Joerie Vansteelant, and he did not disappoint. Joerie was third into the first transition 19 seconds behind leader Derek Yorek and in a pack with Matthew Sheeks and Joshua Merrick. Soon after that is when Joerie took control. After completing the three loop bike course, Joerie was ahead of the pack and stayed out in front. He finished with a strong 2:36 lead over the next finisher. Matthew Sheeks took second place overall and snagged the title of USAT Elite Duathlon National Champion as the first American finisher. Powerman Alabama 2009 winner David Thompson placed third after coming in just under a minute behind Sheeks.
Professional Women
The women’s race was especially exciting to the local spectators. Birmingham-area locals Jessica Jacobs and Deanna Newman took second and third place respectively. The overall female winner and the female USAT Elite Duathlon National Champion was Marisa Asplund. Marisa was fourth into transition after the first run behind Uli Bromme, Jessica Jacobs and Melissa Miller. But she made up some time with the fastest bike split of the day. The 2009 Powerman Alabama winner Jacobs finished just over a minute behind Asplund followed by Newman.
Amateur Races
The weekend was kicked off by the PowerKids Duathlons which included five races for various age groups. They were exciting events with close to 100 children ages 3 – 12 years participating. The overall XTERRA 8k Trail Run winners were Jackie
Witherspoon (first overall) and Mark Ingle. Casey Fannin and Krista Casazza took the overall wins for the XTERRA Off-Road Duathlon. Overall winners for the Double Oak Duathlon were Patrick O'Brien and Johanna Gartman. Keith Marshall and Mary Rosser took the top podium spots for the Team Magic Signature Duathlon. The overall winners for the Powerman Alabama amateur race were James McCurdy and Carrie Andrews.

The world returns to Muncie for Powerman Muncie

http://www.duathlon247.com/article_5691.html

Powerman are please to announce a new addition to their 2010 events calendar - Powerman Muncie. The event, which takes place on 2nd October will be raced over the 10k, 60k, 10k format. Rumour has it that this is not the only new race that's going to be added to the calendar and an announcement that a new European event is imminent.
Steve Tomboni, CEO of Muncie Multi-Sport had this to say about the new addition to the 2010 Powerman calendar:
“After our first conversation with Powerman it was obvious to both parties that Muncie would be an outstanding location for this event. Our international reputation after the ITU World's 1996 event was awesome. It is one of the best venues in America for this type of race. Prairie Creek is an outstanding course that features the perfect 20k lap around the lake with rolling hills and is a challenging run course considered by many to be difficult.”

Powerman International and Muncie Multi-Sport, Inc. will invite all of the top 10 rated men and women duathletes globally to race in a series of events which will include three duathlons.

The Powerman Muncie event will be the final event for the Muncie Multi-Sport company in 2010. It will be preceded by a series of races that include the Muncie May Duathlon on May 15th followed by triathlon, duathlon and 5k/10k run events scheduled for June 12th, August 7th and September 4th. Prairie Creek Reservoir will be the site for all of these events.

John Raadschelders, President, International Powerman Association had this to say about the announcement:

“Powerman International, the international governing organization for duathlon events, would like to welcome Powerman Muncie, produced by Muncie Multi-Sport to the family of Powerman events held across the world and in the United States. We are thrilled that Steven Tomboni(MMSI) and the beautiful town, Muncie, will be part of the Powerman World series from 2010. Muncie has a strong background in organizing international sport events. Also very importantly the community of Muncie have showen in the past that they love multi-sports. I am sure Powerman Muncie will be seen, worldwide, as the happening Powerman duathlon that you have to be at.”

Tammy Tomboni, co-owner of Muncie Multi-Sport added:

“Muncie Multi-Sport is proud to have Powerman International join the family of events planned in Muncie for the spring, summer and fall of 2010. We are excited to once again invite athletes from across the globe to Muncie for Powerman. Our community came together as never before in 1996 and the display of hoosier hospitality was indeed remembered by all the athletes who attended.” The event was awarded the 1996 International Race of the Year by the ITU."

Muncie Multi-Sport plans to have a week long series of events that will include a sports equipment trade show on October 1st at the Horizon Convention Center. Powerman Muncie on Saturday will feature the non professional events starting at 8am and the professional event beginning at 1pm. Tentative plans call for a PowerKids duathlon for ages 8-14 on Sunday. The start and finish for Powerman Muncie 2010 and all of the other Muncie Multi-Sport events will be Prairie Creek Reservoir.
